This picture was taken at Pennsic XII (1981) after Thomas Binkley, the director of the Indiana University Early Music Program, asked me "Where's your armor?" when I appeared for my lute jury after my first semester of instruction. The lute is by Larry Brown; the armor is by Master Valerius, O.L.. We borrowed the tent as a backdrop.
