Art of the Shire

This page collects representations of the art created by artisans working in the Society for Creative Anachronism which are in the possession of present or former members of the Shire of Mynydd Seren.  The art includes works by artisans active in the Shire and by those outside the Shire, and includes works  possessed by someone  who did not actually create the work.

The types of work to be collected here will eventually include all of the forms of art created within the Society for Creative Anachronism, including arms and armor, dance, heraldry, poetry, song, and theater.

The most important Web page for accessing information about the SCA is www.sca.org, which has pointers to many different Web sites both inside and outside of the SCA.

The main Shire page is at http://mynydseren.midrealm.org.

This page is dedicated to Ruth Woodring, known in the Middle Kingdom and in the southern kingdom of Ansteorra as Baroness Vashti of the Flaming Tresses.

This page is maintained by Michael L. Squires, known in the Middle Kingdom of the Society for Creative Anachronism as Alan Culross, KSCA, OP, ODH, OW (dance), etc.

Lothar's Pigface Bascinet

The bascinet pictured was made by Lord Lothar, now living in Atlantia, under the direction of Master Guichart.  It is based on a German original.

The black-and-white harness was made by Master Roberto de Milano for Sir Alan.  It is based on a type of armor made in large quantities for use by the Imperial armies and German princes.  The decoration is similar to armors now in the Graz armory, and a similar armor is in a Scottish collection.

The bascinet pictured above was made in the Mynydd Seren Armourer's Shop.
